Rustic Headboard and Paint Chip

Introduction

Have you ever wanted to add a rustic touch to your bedroom but weren’t sure how? This article will show you how to make a rustic headboard out of paint chips! You’ll be surprised at how easy it is and how great it looks.

Step 1: Supplies

What You Need

-Paint chips in desired colors
-Mod Podge
-Foam brush
-Scissors
-Ruler or measuring tape
-X-Acto knife (optional)
-Pencil
-Headboard

Instructions
1. Choose the paint colors you want to use. You can use as many or as few colors as you like. Paint chips are usually available for free at your local hardware store.
2. Cut the paint chips into small squares. If you want to be precise, you can use a ruler or measuring tape to measure the paint chips before cutting them. However, it's not necessary to be too precise. Just make sure all the paint chips are roughly the same size.
3. Apply a layer of Mod Podge to the headboard with a foam brush. Be sure to cover the entire surface of the headboard.
4. Begin applying the paint chips to the headboard, starting at one end and working your way to the other. Overlap the paint chips slightly as you go. Continue until the entire headboard is covered.
5. Once all the paint chips are in place, apply another layer of Mod Podge over top.

Step 2: The Frame

This headboard was made from an old door that we found at a salvage yard. We sanded it down and stained it to give it a rustic look. Then we hung it on the wall and added some paint chips to give it a bit of color.

To make this headboard, you will need:

-An old door
-Sandpaper
-Stain
-Paint chips

First, sand down the door to remove any paint or varnish. Then, stain the door with your desired color. We used a dark walnut stain. Allow the stain to dry completely.

Next, decide where you want to hang the headboard. We hung ours above the bed. Use screws or nails to secure the headboard to the wall.

Finally, add the paint chips. We used small pieces of painters tape to adhere the paint chips to the headboard. You can use any colors you like!

Step 3: The Paint Chips

You will need:
-1/4" paint chips in the colors of your choice (I used a mix of light and dark colors to create contrast)
-Mod Podge
-Foam brush
-Ruler or straight edge
-Scissors
-Twine or string
-Tape (optional)

Start by planning out the design of your headboard. I wanted mine to have a rustic feel, so I chose a simple design with straight lines. Once you have your design planned, use a ruler or straight edge to mark out the lines on your paint chips. Then, carefully cut along the lines with scissors.

Next, apply a layer of Mod Podge to the back of each paint chip. You can do this with a foam brush or your fingers. Once all of the chips are covered, begin attaching them to the headboard. I started at the top and worked my way down, but you can do it in any order you like. Make sure that the chips are overlapping slightly so that no wood is showing through.

Once all of the chips are in place, give the headboard a final coat of Mod Podge. This will help to protect the head

Step 4: Attaching the Paint Chips

Now that you have your paint chips all sorted out, it's time to attach them to the headboard!

If you're using a hot glue gun, simply apply a small amount of glue to the back of each paint chip and press it onto the headboard. If you're using regular glue, you'll need to wait for it to dry before moving on to the next step.

Once all of the paint chips are attached, you'll need to seal them with a clear sealer. This will protect the paint chips from damage and keep them looking their best. Apply the sealer with a brush or a roller, and let it dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Conclusion

This rustic headboard is the perfect addition to any bedroom. With its simple design, it can be easily made by anyone with basic woodworking skills. Plus, the paint chip artwork adds a unique and personal touch to the headboard.
